Cottages The Wine Press and The Little House, to discover South Burgundy

Our two cottages are located in a quiet village in the heart of the vineyards, 12km from Chalon-sur-Saône and 30km from Beaune, on the wine route, the ‘Route des Vins’, between Mercurey and Givry.
Renovated in an old winery courtyard complex, they are furnished in a simple and homely style which makes for a comfortable, relaxing visit.
The village, Saint-Martin-sous-Montaigu, is in a very central location for discovering the cultural and heritage riches of South Burgundy. Your visit can take in sites from Beaune to Cluny (or further south to Solutré) or from Autun in the west to Chalon and Tournus to the east, passing by real jewels like the castles of Sercy and La Rochepot.
The surrounding hills, parts of which are classified by the EU as ‘Natura 2000’ sites, offer numerous possibilities for hiking starting from the front door of your cottage.
Our corner of Burgundy is full of well kept secrets and we will be more than happy to help you find them - panoramic views, bike paths, canals, lakes, hidden villages and local products.

  • Alésia

A very well reconstructed historic site, well designed museum, activities in summer.
Even if Alesia is a little distant, the site is worth the detour.
  • Autun

The cathedral and its surroundings, the Roman and Gallic remains, the ramparts, the pleasant shopping streets...
A nice view and walk from the village of Couhard.
Peaceful atmosphere as you get away from the city.
  • Beaune

The visit to the Hospices, the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame, a visit to a wine cellar, the castle of Savigny-les-Beaune nearby ...
Beaune is only 30km from the cottages.
Our advice: visit the Hospices on a sunny morning
  • Chateau de Savigny-les-Beaune

A unique and crazy place : a medieval castle, a huge park that houses collections of fighter planes, racing cars, fire trucks...
Our tip : visit the Hospices in the morning, before this castle.
  • Bibracte

A hill with many excavation sites, rich and varied information, a very educational and attractive museum, surprising trees, a beautiful walk with magnificent views from the summit ...
Here you will learn the origin of the trees with the amazing shapes.
  • Brancion hill and castle

Quiet and picturesque hill site only open to pedestrians with an almost abandoned village and its castle, a Romanesque chapel with a superb view. It’s possible to walk around the hill.
Do not miss Chapaize chapel (and restaurant) a few kilometres away
  • Buxy

You must stop at Buxy and walk around the church which is so rich in surprises. The surrounding villages also conceal hidden treasures (Montagny, Bissy/Fley, Culles-les-Roches ...).
    The Voie Verte passes nearby.
A peaceful atmosphere, almost the South!
  • Chalon/Saône

The market near the cathedral, the free museums (Nicéphore Niepce and Denon), the historic centre and its pedestrian streets, guided tours of the city and the Saône ...
For families: the aquatic centre and the Georges Nouelle Park
  • Castle of Cormatin

Some interiors of the castle are superb, the visits are of well conducted and the gardens are worth the visit alone.
Artisanal gallery in Cormatin, in anold factory for making silk thread.
  • Couches

The visit to the castle is very varied and well adapted to children.
In the neighbourhood: Mount Rome, the Canal du Centre, the standing stones…
Jazz at the beginning of July
  • Chateau de Germolles

3km away, an exceptional visit is conducted by the owner, atireless researcher and discoverer of the stories of Burgundy.
Accessible by bike from the cottages.
  • Castle of La Rochepot

Unfortunately, the castle is closed because the owner is in prison! It is still worth going there as it can be admired from the outside. A jewel with glazed tiles!
Take the opportunity to visit Nolay, 4km.
  • Nolay

The pedestrian center of Nolay is a walk back in time. Nice bike path to Santenay and starting point to the cirque du Bout du Monde (hiking, climbing and views).
  • Paray-le-Monial

The quality of light of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart is close to that of Tournus, several points of interest on the route (Romanesque churches, museums, eco-tourism).
Canal bridge of Digoin a few kilometres away
  • Castle of Rully

The castle is visited mainly in summer. A pleasant shady park.
Departure point for the walk to the grottes of Agneux (tour of Rully).
For a breathtaking view, arrive at the castle from the direction of "Le Petit Blanc" restaurant.
  • Saint Gengoux

Large village near the Voie Verte, full of history. Nothing spectacular, just the pleasure of going off the beaten track and sometimes back in time.
Plenty to see for the observant walker
  • Castle of Sercy

You are not able to visit the Chateau but there is a very good view from the road between Buxy and Cormatin. The wooden ‘hourd’ on top, is probably the only one still intact in France.
Just the most beautiful castle in the world !
  • Solutré

The pilgrimage to the summit can be combined with the tour of the 2 rocks. The prehistoric museum is very well designed.
A space dedicated to eco-tourism is near a charming bar/restaurant.
  • Tournus

The abbey of Saint-Philibert and its buildings. A tour of the city through the small pedestrian streets to the Hotel Dieu and the museum Greuze is very pleasant.
The Brancion site is not very far.
  • Our holiday cottages in the heart of the Vallée des Vaux

Many walks or bikerides from the cottages. Discover our gentle hills (classified Natura 2000), where vineyards, pastures and forests mingle.
12km from Chalon/Saone, 2km from Mercurey and 6km from Givry
The life of the gites

Our sustainable development approach for green gites

Beyond our hospitable welcome, we are committed to providing our guests with a healthy and natural environment when they stay at our gites.
Each year we add new ideas to enrich our "sustainable development" approach.

Some of our actions, like the use of laundry and cleaning products based on natural ingredients, may not be very visible as for green gite, but we are convinced that these actions contribute to the quality of your stay in our little corner of Burgundy.

An environment preserved

A visit nearby

The chateau of Germolles is 3km away

The chateau of Germolles, the best preserved residence of the Dukes of Burgundy (late 14th century), was a palatial country residence of a "shepherdess princess".

The visits are enriched by the fascinating stories told by the owners who are passionate about their Chateau and its past history.

There are a number of public lectures throughout the year as well as workshops for children.

At only 3 km from the gîtes, you can ride there by bike.
